The magical views of The Lake District. A perfect location for an elopement! With Autumn and all its glory set into nature during this elopement day, it gave the most amazing colors and views for Jo and Jacob’s big day.
Why Did the Couple Choose To Elope?
Jo & Jacob: We decided to elope to avoid the pressures and stress that often come with a traditional wedding day. For us, the joy was in getting ready together as a family and keeping the focus purely on our love and story – nothing else. Our love for one another and our daughter was what was important to us, and we wanted it to be all about that.
What Makes The Low Wood Bay Spa And Resort Special for Elopements?
Jo & Jacob: The venue was right next to the Lake and had a big bit of green area behind where it was raised up to have a backdrop of the lake. The spa on site was great, and the price was amazing for an elopement package.
The venue was a busy venue, and it would have felt too much if we had our whole family and friends there. The rooms were perfect, overlooking the lake, especially in the morning when the mist was sitting on top of the lake. Everything just felt very personalised and cosy.
Can You Get Legally Married in England?
Yes, even as a non-resident you can get married here. Jo and Jacob had a civil ceremony.

What Sustainability Considerations Were Made (if any) For This Elopement in Windermere?
Jo & Jacob: We used a local florist, and used seasonal flowers for our day. My wedding dress was bought off Vinted, brand new with tags. I didn’t see the point in buying an expensive dress from a boutique brand new. We shared a car with the photographer to drive up into the hills for the photos. I drove in my wedding dress which was fun.
Did the Couple Incorporate Any Cultural Aspects of The Lake District into Their Elopement?
Jo & Jacob: Our wedding was inspired by the Lake District itself. The breathtaking scenery, with its fells and lakes, became the backdrop for our day and we kept things simple to let the setting shine. We chose local suppliers for the flowers. Our wedding photos felt rooted in the place we love.

Esther, the photographer: I’d personally avoid the height of summer because of the popularity of the lakes!

What Are the Best Tips for Planning an Elopement in Windermere?
Jo & Jacob: Choose your season wisely, The place itself is stunning, but the autumn colours just made it perfect for us. I would recommend sturdy shoes for the photos so that you can get great photos in different areas. I wore Dr Marten boots. We picked the venue for the spa afterwards, it felt like the perfect way to celebrate together. Our photographer knew the lakes well too and knew the best places to get photos.
Esther, the photographer: Come up with a strict plan (and backup) beforehand as there’s rarely a signal if plans change.
How Did the Couple Personalize Their Elopement?
Jo & Jacob: We kept our day very personal by doing things our own way. We got ready together as a family which felt really special and set a relaxed tone for the day. We chose the music ourselves and worked closely with our wedding planner to make sure everything reflected us as a couple. Afterwards we celebrated with afternoon tea – simple, intimate and exactly what we love.
What Challenges Did the Couple Face While Planning Their Elopement in Windermere, and How Did They Overcome Them?
Jo & Jacob: We had to get in touch with the local registrar which was difficult in terms of their opening times, and trying to do this around our working lives. If we were getting married locally, it would have felt easy to just make an appointment and go in person. We did go and see the venue after we’d booked it, and loved it just as much as what we’d seen online, but it meant a lot of communicating by email and telephone with the wedding planner due to the distance.
What Advice Would You Give to Others Planning an Elopement in The Lake District?
Jo & Jacob: I would just say go for it. There’s so many beautiful places to have your photos. We found it was quite touristy whenever and wherever you go around that area, so be prepared for that in terms of it being busy and trying to find space for some private photos.
Esther, the photographer: Be prepared for any and all weather. And if you don’t like the weather.. wait 15 minutes.

What Were the Most Memorable Moments from This Elopement?
Jo & Jacob: The most memorable moments were getting ready together, walking down the aisle knowing thet we were going to be leaving the room as a married couple, and having our wonderful spa afterwards where we could relax and unwind.
Why Is The Lake District One of the Best Places to Get Married in Europe?
Jo & Jacob: The scenery is stunning and made our pictures look amazing, alongside the fact that we had an amazing photographer. It’s beautiful in winter with so many vibrant colours. Being out in nature is the best, and our photos reflected who we are as a couple.
