This adventurous California couple wanted a unique elopement experience in beautiful Iceland. The night before their elopement there was a snow storm and snow flurries in the morning.

Their first look took place in their suite overlooking the Black sand Beach and the sea. They were so excited and sipped some wine and groom Scotch with the best men in the room next door. We drove on the gravel road for a while and found the iconic Yoda Cave and it provided the perfect setting for their ceremony.
As their parents watched and the brides uncle officiated their heartfelt ceremony.

Next day they all visited several waterfalls and captured more amazing pictures.

How did you choose the location?

From Amanda, the bride:  We chose Iceland because it was the #1 country we both wanted to visit and we had that in common when we first met. Neither of us believe in spending thousands of dollars for a one day wedding event that caters more to the guests than the bride and groom.  We preferred to spend that money on a vacation and secluded vow exchange instead.

Do you require any special permits to get married here or have a photo session?

From Amanda, the bride: Most of the locations were open to the public. For one of the waterfalls, we followed the trail that was provided by the kind land owner to access.

Can you have a legal ceremony here or just symbolic?

From Amanda, the bride: You can have both. We were legally married in America before having our symbolic ceremony in Iceland.

How easy are the locations to access?

From Amanda, the bride: You will need a car. Some locations will require 4 wheel drive for some spots.

What are your top tips for planning an elopement in this area?

From Amanda, the bride: Wear warm under garments, I wore warm leggings in flesh color. Comfortable shoes and a warm jacket that is waterproof is a must.
I think the best time of year to visit is when the days are long. We got married in May and were able to see a lot of the sites because the sun didn’t set until 10pm.

how did the couple meet?

From Amanda, the bride: Austin and I were set up by mutual friends. We exchanged numbers and officially met at a barbecue a week later. We hit it off instantly. He met my parents 2 weeks later, we were living together within 3 months and engaged in less than a year.

Why did you decide to elope?

From Amanda, the bride: Neither of us have large families so we wanted to do something small and intimate that was just for us. We eloped because we did not want to ask people to travel to Iceland and have some people unable to attend because of the cost of travel.

What made you choose Europe and this location in particular?

From Amanda, the bride: The cave was not our initial spot for our vows but the isolation of the cave and weather since it was raining made it the perfect venue. Our photographer, video team was super helpful and thankfully knew all the best locations.

The other black sand beach spots had lots of tourists and the cave was a less known and visited spot. Iceland was a dream come true and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Any other advice you’d like to share based on your experience?

From Amanda, the bride: The weather in Iceland is very unpredictable. You can experience all 4 seasons in one day. Be prepared In Iceland, as long as you rent a car and have appropriate gear for the weather, you are set for an awesome visit.

My mom joked before our trip that I needed nicer wedding shoes. I bought white Timberland hiking boots instead of high heels or something elegant. It was the best thing I did because we had to hike to some spots and we ended up getting some amazing photos because we were able to hike there.
