The rugged Isle of Skye, such a beautiful location to visit and rightfully so, very popular for elopements as well. Ianne and Marisha picked The Three Chimneys on the Island for their elopement ceremony.

What do you love about this location?

Maureen, the photographer: It’s magical, at any time of year. There’s so many different locations to choose for your ceremony and portraits – giant mountains, lush glens, sweeping shorelines. I live close by on the neighbouring island of North Uist, just a 1hr45 ferry away. I go to Skye all the time for elopements and intimate weddings as it’s a popular location.

What are your top tips for planning a destination wedding/elopement in this location?

Maureen: Allow time to scout and get familiar with the island when you arrive. It’s full of hidden gems. Be aware the island is pretty big, so you might not have time to drive between too many locations – choose wisely. Wear sensible shoes, bring rainjackets (at any time of year), and learn the roads (even if you’re not international). The passing places, and roaming sheep can take you by surprise!

When is the best time of day/year to plan a destination wedding/elopement in this location?

Maureen: Early in spring or late autumn is my recommendation, or the winter (like this one!) if you’re relaxed with your plans (can’t guarantee an outdoor ceremony if it’s storming!) The island can get very busy in peak season.

Do you need any permits or permission from landowners for this location?

Maureen: The ceremony was done inside at the Three Chimneys, which the couple were given permission for my the owners. The other locations used for portraits didn’t require any permissions.

What advice would you give to others planning a destination wedding/elopement in this location?

Maureen: Choose someone familiar with the area, so they can recommend locations that are less likely to be busy. There’s some amazing off-the-beaten-path spots not everyone is familiar with!
