Tell us your story

Hey! I’m Angela. I am originally from Long Island, New York, USA. I chose Iceland 11 years ago (almost exactly to this date) and have lived here permanently for 6 years. I initially came here because I had come across some articles at the time that showcased Iceland for its peacefulness. When I arrived, I fell in love with the landscapes and the nature and was treated kindly by a group of locals who kept inviting me back. Those same friends are like my family today, and how I met my husband. We’ve been married since 2020 and live in a Reykjavik suburb with our cat Lukka. 

I am nature-obsessed. I love being outdoors and especially in the mountains, where I feel grounded, small, and free. I love discovering new, hidden little pieces of Iceland. In the summers, my husband and I spend around a month camping around the entire island and love staying in the most remote areas, hiking, exploring, and photographing.

How long have you been working in the wedding industry?

Since September 2024.

What made you get into weddings & elopements?

I have a background in hospitality (20 years in New York) and tourism in Iceland, as well as event management throughout my career. Photography has always been a passion of mine, but I grew up in a household that didn’t prioritize the arts and especially not as a career. When I left my home country and moved to Iceland in my mid-thirties, I wanted to truly step into more of what makes me happy. Largely a landscape and nature photographer, in 2022 I started photographing my friends’ families and absolutely fell in love with it. The way I felt I could naturally guide my subjects, photograph them in an artful but documentary way, and then to know that they also cherished the photographs – I knew this was what I wanted to do, which naturally evolved in couples and elopement photography, out in nature and in the most stunning Icelandic landscapes, and being able to share places that I love and guide my clients through discovering Iceland – a true mix of everything I hold so closely to my heart. 

In 2024 the company I worked for as an operations manager laid off dozens of people, and I was one of them. I took this rare opportunity to go full-time with elopement photography, and I started my business in September 2024.

What do you love about intimate weddings and elopements?

The ability to design a day that is not for grandma, or mom, or anyone else but you and your partner. Taking what you love and magnifying it, and this idea that, honestly, the possibilities are limitless. In Iceland, you can say your vows at a hidden waterfall in the morning, hike on a glacier at lunch, and take sunset photos at a black sand beach by dinner.

How would you describe your approach to your work?

I love connecting with my couples on a personal level, first and foremost. For me, this is not a transactional situation; I want to really get to know them and who they are, what makes their hearts happy, and how I can serve them the best possible way, on the most important day of their lives. I start with a consult call to make sure we’re a great fit, and our energies complement one another. On the elopement day, I have a very chill and grounding presence. I’m there as a friend, Iceland guide, dress fluffer, tie straightener, you get the point. I start with a guiding approach, exploring bits of Iceland and letting the natural reactions unfold. When it feels right, I encourage my couples with casual, natural prompts so it doesn’t feel like a photoshoot at all. The day is about them, and I want them to feel that way while being photographed.

What’s your favourite part of a wedding day?

I usually always cry at the first look – I can’t help it, I’m ruled by my emotions! And this is one of the most emotionally honest parts of the day, the first look and the ceremony. But honestly, my favorite is just exploring Iceland like friends with my couples and letting the mood of the moment, the weather, the light, and the landscape just guide us.

What advice would you give couples who are in the process of planning a wedding or elopement?

I think it’s SO important to make sure you’re connecting with your photographer! You should feel energized after a consult call or communications with them. They’ll be with you on one of the most intimate, emotional, and important days of your life, so you should feel like a friend who you absolutely trust. I also think it’s super important to work with local vendors – people who are boots-on-the-ground in your destination country, with lived experience and time spent there. And if this is impossible for you then someone who has extremely close ties and connections with your destination country, with tons of resources and galleries from your chosen location.

When you’re not at a wedding, what do you love doing?

I’m a nature girlie. I want to be in the mountains, hiking, or location scouting. I often escape the city for the countryside and stay in a cabin (or as we call them, summerhouse) in a remote spot, and spend the day in nature, and swimming in a hot pot.

Do you have a dream wedding or elopement you’d love to do?

I would love to lean more into true adventure elopements. I’m talking about a helicopter ride to a glacier, or a multi-day hiking trip in the highlands. I have extensive experience in tourism and logistics planning here, as well as the vendor connections, and I am also a planner + guide. So I would really love to put all that experience to work and plan an epic adventure with my elopement couples.
