Meet Kathryn

Tell us your story

Hi, I’m Kathryn! Originally from Canada (where I grew up with 14 huskies), I’ve been living in Switzerland for over 20 years, and it’s these two countries that sparked my love for mountains and nature in all its forms. I’ve explored everything from glaciers to deserts, and it’s my firm belief that there’s nothing more important than being in nature. Taking the time to admire its beauty and share it with the people you love.

My path into elopement photography wasn’t exactly planned. I’ve always been drawn to landscape photography and the wild peace of nature, but was scared I wouldn’t be able to make a real career out of it. So, I continued my studies in literature and philosophy (not the best plan B for a stable job!) and just did photography for myself, friends, and family. It was only at the end of my Master’s that I fully embraced my dream of shooting elopements, and after capturing the first love stories set against alpine peaks, glacial lakes, and golden valleys — I was completely hooked.

For me, photography is about presence. It’s about the moments that happen when no one’s performing — the deep breath before a first look, the laughter echoing down a trail from slipping and falling (I myself am guaranteed to fall at least once every session), the way a couple leans into each other when the wind picks up. I thrive on helping couples create an experience that feels like them — whether that means hiking through fog at sunrise, celebrating with fondue in a mountain hut, or dancing barefoot in the rain with wedding attire.

I believe love is love — and that every couple deserves a space where their story can unfold freely, honestly, and joyfully. My job isn’t just to take photos; it’s to make sure your day feels effortless, deeply personal, and full of heart.

How long have you been working in the wedding industry?

I’ve been photographing weddings and elopements full-time for two years, though it feels like a lifetime’s worth of stories already. Before that, I photographed for friends, colleagues, and anyone who’d let me tag along with my camera in the mountains — which, in hindsight, was the perfect training ground.

What made you get into weddings & elopements?

I’ve never been big on romcoms and big gestures, in the same way that I’ve never been drawn to big weddings. For me, true love is in the small things, like when your partner brings you a blanket when you’re cold, or does the dishes after you’ve cooked. With elopements, I find it’s the small moments like these that count the most – you’re not there to impress anyone. You’re just there to be you, with the person who loves you for everything you are and everything you do. Love like this and nature are my two favorite things in the world — and elopements are where the two collide most beautifully. I myself have chosen to elope, because I’ve always believed that there’s something sacred about standing in a vast landscape with the person you love most and just being with them. It’s simple, honest, and real — and I want to spend my life immortalizing that.

What do you love about intimate weddings and elopements?

There’s a certain kind of trust in being invited into one of the most meaningful days of someone’s life. It’s incredibly special – even if I never see my couples again, we’ll always share that day. The trust, the joy, the memories. And I love to reciprocate that trust by showing people my country — bringing them to wild corners of Switzerland that you don’t find online, sharing fun facts about these places, and reminding them how grounding and awe-inspiring nature can be. Watching people experience that beauty together? That’s everything.

With elopements, I find it’s the small moments like these that count the most – you’re not there to impress anyone. You’re just there to be you, with the person who loves you for everything you are and everything you do.

How would you describe your approach to your work?

I’m a firm believer in spontaneity, connection, and comfort. My approach is calm and intuitive — I want my couples to feel like they can just be themselves and show up to the perfect day. From the start, I help eliminate as much stress as possible by guiding them through everything: choosing the perfect location, finding trusted local vendors, thinking up meaningful activities, crafting a timeline, and always (always!) having a backup plan.

Planning an elopement from another country can be overwhelming (speaking from personal experience), but that’s where having a local on your side makes all the difference. I know the terrain, the light, the weather quirks, and the things you don’t even know to think of — as well as the best spots for chocolate breaks between photos!

Some (if not most) of the best moments happen when things don’t go according to plan — embrace the wind, the rain, the unexpected detours.

What’s your favourite part of a wedding day?

That quiet in-between moment when everything slows down — specifically, the moment when a couple arrives to the main destination(s),  looks at each other and realizes, “This is it. We’re here.” There’s no recreating that look, not in movies or styled shoots or anywhere. Whether it’s on a mountaintop, a glacier, or by a lake, that stillness, that look gets me every time. Also: golden hour. Always golden hour.

What advice would you give couples who are in the process of planning a wedding or elopement?

Don’t over-plan: Some (if not most) of the best moments happen when things don’t go according to plan — embrace the wind, the rain, the unexpected detours. Stressing about the weather won’t change it, and in italian we have a saying: “Sposa bagnata, sposa fortunata!”. This means getting wet on your wedding day brings good luck, and I promise, if the weather isn’t ideal, you’ll just remember the day even more.

Choose meaning over everything else. The best day is the one that feels like you, not what you or the people around you think it should look like.

Hire vendors you trust and vibe with. Your photographer, planner, and makeup artist aren’t just there for services — they’re the people who’ll hold space for your memories, who’ll be there for you during your intimate elopement.  You want people who will be supportive, who will be your trail buddies, and who will make you feel the most at ease possible.

When you’re not at a wedding, what do you love doing?

If I’m not photographing, I’m usually hiking and exploring new locations for my couples, writing my PhD on transatlantic literature (because why not add more stress to my life!), painting, or trying to keep my plants alive (emphasis on trying). I especially love slow mornings, misty forests, and long dinners with good friends after a day outdoors.

Do you have a dream wedding or elopement you’d love to do?

Absolutely — I’d love to photograph an elopement in Alaska or Iceland (where I’ll actually be eloping myself in the summer of 2026!). It’s like taking Switzerland to the next level – there’s something about those raw, remote landscapes that feels like the edge of the world.
