Meet Gill from Unfurl Photography
Tell us your story
Hello! I’m Gill, a North East–based wedding and elopement photographer. Photography has grown from a lifelong love of working with people. My career hasn’t followed a single path — I’ve taught in schools and spent over a decade living in France, running a tourism and hospitality business. Creating environments where people feel inspired, curious, and enriched has been the common thread through everything I’ve done. Slow living, good food, and good company sit at the heart of my life, with sustainability woven through it all.

How long have you been working in the wedding industry?
13 Years
What made you get into weddings & elopements?
I was running a landscape photography workshop with a colleague, and he was moaning about a wedding he didn’t want to do. I suggested that I’d go with him for moral support. He hated it, I loved it! So I decided to create a wedding portfolio, very slowly, learning through shadowing photographers at REAL WEDDINGS. Then, with my love of the outdoors and epic landscapes, elopements were a natural progression.
What do you love about intimate weddings and elopements?
I love that they are paired back, not performative, and rooted in connection, rather than over-consumption.
I love working in my home area of Northumberland, and I love weddings that allow the couple to take in the day in full

How would you describe your approach to your work?
Relaxed, couple focused, experience.

What’s your favourite part of a wedding day?
The vows!
Slow living, good food, and good company sit at the heart of my life, with sustainability woven through it all.
What advice would you give couples who are in the process of planning a wedding or elopement?
My main advice would be to book local suppliers, especially the planner and photographer/videographer. If you are having a wild landscape elopement, they need to know the location, so they can give you the very best experience and keep you safe if the weather becomes adverse, or if there is an accident or incident that impacts your plans (e.g., road blocks, etc.). Think of your seasons too, and avoid places that suffer from over-tourism.

When you’re not at a wedding, what do you love doing?
Being outdoors with my Vizsla “Ticket.”
Do you have a dream wedding or elopement you’d love to do?
I love working in my home area of Northumberland, and I love weddings that allow the couple to take in the day in full! Landscape, Landrovers, good food, and a castle for starters. The very best of my region. I’m not ambitious to travel away to shoot a wedding or elopement, as my expertise is where I live. The dream is to have simplicity and sustainability for myself and my business!
