Luma & Luke had a courthouse wedding in their home town in Germany and wanted to take photos somewhere in nature. They decided to do so during their honeymoon in beautiful Slovenia. They headed to Triglav Valley with a stunning waterfall for a magical photo shoot with their photographer Anja.
How did you choose the location?
Anja, the photographer: We first hoped on a video call with the couple to discuss theis wishes and vision, where they see themselves and what they want to experience. I prepared them a few locations from which they had a hard time choosing “only one” as Slovenia is so diverse and gorgeous. They ended up choosing the Triglav Valley – which is what I was “secretly” rooting for as well!
Do you require any special permits or permission from landowners to take photos here?
Anja: No, its public land, no permits are required.

How easy is the location to access? Is it suitable for all ages and abilities?
Anja: The waterfall is a bit of a hike, not accessible to all abilities (steep and bumpy, but short few minutes hike), but I would say it is suitable for all ages – if they feel confident walking uphill. We drove further up the valley – to reach the final parking by the Aljažs hut from where we walked further down the path. This is an easy walk in nature, very accessible.
Why should couples consider having a photoshoot in this location/area?
Anja: The view of the mountains is superb! There is forest, mountains, amazing waterfall which offers a great combination and diversity for photoshoot (or just to visit). It feel very pristine, untouched while still incredibly easy to get to and require little to no actual hiking.
What are your top tips for planning a shoot in this area?
Anja: The road is only accessible when there is no snow – if there is snow, the road is closed down so the only way is to hike for hours to reach it. Durring summer season it gets really busy with hikers and tourists so you should not expect complete privacy (waterfall area is always busy!). Overall check the weather, parking options (if high season) and plan for extra time, because you will get distracted by how gorgeous it is!

Is there a best time of year to visit this location?
Anja: i would say autumn or late spring are the best! Not crowded, gorgeous colours and more privacy. Since it is a valley there is no real golden hour, so plan accordingly to get the best light for photos. Great benefit is that the Aljaž hut is open in the summer and you get to treat yourself with an amazing home made meal or cold beer.
Any other advice or tips you would like to share based on your experience?
Anja: The location is very easily accessible by car so this is one of the easy to get to options. There are a few really nice paths by the river immersed in the forest that you can explore if you have extra time.
A great point to start hiking to some of the surrounding peaks too! Also it gets cold in the evenings (even in the summer) so bring a warm layer 😉
