Are you considering having a destination wedding at a castle in France? Then we have just the right inspiration shoot for you! This session oozes with charm, history, grandeur, elegance and romance. Chateau Comtesse Lafond is nestled on Épernay’s famous Avenue de Champagne. You’ll notice its striking brick and stone facade and elegant architecture that make it such a memorable landmark.

What was the inspiration behind this styled shoot?

Karine, the planner (& designer & producer): The theme was inspired by the grandeur and charm of French castles, blending historical elegance with a modern romantic aesthetic. The chateau’s iconic towers and picturesque setting provided a perfect canvas for the shoot, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that evoked a sense of luxury and intimacy. In keeping with the French theme, we centered the design around the traditional “toile de jouy” pattern, incorporating it into invitations, favor boxes, and even the wedding cake. A champagne tower was artfully arranged, complemented by a vintage cart displaying Comtesse Lafond’s seven signature Champagne bottles. Classic French elements such as a piece montee (choux tower), macarons, and Champagne reflected the authentic spirit of a French wedding celebration.

What do you love about this location?

Karine: The Château itself is the perfect venue for lovers of this iconic French sparkling wine, offering not only a regal setting but also producing seven exquisite vintages. Inside the historic Comtesse Lafond cellars, where Champagne has been crafted and stored for centuries, we captured the couple in a moment of timeless elegance, adding another layer of depth and luxury to this captivating shoot. Every detail, from the sword-sabering tradition to the vibrant floral design, contributed to the rich storytelling of this styled wedding—one that fully embraces the romance, history, and culture of France.

What are Your top tips for planning a destination wedding/elopement in this location?

Karine: Plan early and secure your dream château at least 12–18 months in advance, as the most sought-after estates in Champagne book quickly. Work with a planner who knows the region, as they can recommend trusted local vendors familiar with the château setting. Consider incorporating Champagne’s heritage into your celebration—such as a cellar tour, Champagne tastings, or local cuisine—to give guests a truly authentic experience.

When is the best time of day/year to plan a destination wedding/elopement in this location?

Karine: The best time of year for a château wedding in Champagne is from May through August, just before the grape harvest season begins. During these months, the weather is warm, the vineyards are vibrant, and the château grounds are at their most picturesque. For photography, scheduling your ceremony or portraits around golden hour—just before sunset—will give you the most romantic, flattering light against the castle backdrop.

Do you need any permits or permission from landowners for this location?

Karine: No permits are necessary for wedding photos if your wedding is hosted at the château. By booking the venue, you are granted access to use its grounds for your ceremony, reception, and photography.

What advice would you give to others planning a destination wedding/elopement in this location?

Karine: Allow time for your guests to experience more than just the wedding day—many couples plan a welcome dinner in Reims or Epernay, or a Champagne-tasting excursion. Build in extra time on your wedding day schedule as well, since the château setting offers countless picturesque corners you’ll want to capture. Finally, embrace the French pace and culture—things move differently than in North America, but the result is an unforgettable, elegant celebration rooted in history and beauty.
