Traveling from America, Leslie and Oliver knew they wanted to tie the knot against the stunning backdrop of Lake Garda, but finding the exact location was a puzzle. Everything changed the moment they came across photographs of Isola del Garda. Captivated by the exclusivity and charm of this private island, they made their decision to get married right there.
Why Did You Decide To Have A Destination Wedding In Isola del Garda?
Leslie & Oliver: We chose Italy because we wanted to share our wedding with our loved ones in a place that felt completely different from home. Lake Garda offered beautiful scenery, history and the relaxed atmosphere we were looking for.
Carlo, the photographer: What I love most about Isola del Garda is that it really feels unlike any other wedding venue on Lake Garda. You arrive by boat, and suddenly you have this private island with gardens, historic architecture, terraces and views of the lake all around you. From a photographer’s perspective, there is an incredible variety of locations within a relatively small area.
What Made Isola Del Garda Perfect for a Small, Intimate Wedding?
Leslie & Oliver: We chose Isola del Garda because it offered something we couldn’t find anywhere else: an entire private island surrounded by Lake Garda. The gardens, historic architecture and views made it feel incredibly special while still being intimate and private for our guests.
Did You Have A Civil (Legal) Ceremony, or A Symbolic Ceremony?
Leslie & Oliver: We had a symbolic ceremony.

Did you consider sustainability, or incorporate any cultural aspects of Isola Del Garda into your Wedding?
Leslie & Oliver: We tried to keep everything focused in one location and worked with local suppliers whenever possible. We included Italian food and celebrated our wedding surrounded by the landscapes, gardens and atmosphere of Lake Garda.
How you Personalize your wedding day?
Leslie & Oliver: We wanted the day to feel relaxed and personal, focusing on spending time with our guests in a truly unique setting rather than following a traditional wedding format.
Do You Recommend June For Getting Married In Isola Del Garda?
Leslie & Oliver: The warmer months are beautiful on Lake Garda. We would especially recommend spring or early autumn, when the weather is pleasant and temperatures are more comfortable.
Carlo, the photographer: For the time of year, I would generally recommend April through September. July and August can be very hot, so spring and early autumn are often particularly pleasant.
For photography, I would avoid scheduling the ceremony when the sun is at its highest. Later in the afternoon and around sunset usually provide much softer and more flattering light.

Did you Face any challenges While Planning your Wedding in Italy?
Leslie & Oliver: Planning a wedding from another country naturally required a lot of organisation and coordination, but having experienced local vendors and a wedding planner made everything much easier.
What Advice Would You Give to Others Planning a Wedding in Isola Del Garda?
Leslie & Oliver: Choose the right local team, plan the logistics carefully and give yourselves plenty of time to enjoy the location. Don’t try to fit too much into one day. Lake Garda has so many beautiful locations, and it’s worth allowing enough time to enjoy them.
Carlo, the photographer: Don’t try to rush the day. The island has so many beautiful spots, and I always recommend allowing enough time for the couple’s photos. Also, think carefully about the ceremony time. The light can be very harsh in the middle of the day, while the later afternoon and sunset offer much better conditions. My biggest piece of advice is simple: give yourselves time. Don’t plan every minute of the day too tightly. You are travelling to a very special place, and you should have time to actually experience it.
Also, make sure the logistics are planned carefully, especially accommodation and boat transfers for your guests. Most couples and guests stay in nearby towns such as Salò.

What Were the Most Memorable Moments?
Leslie & Oliver: Arriving on the island by boat and seeing everyone gathered for our ceremony were unforgettable moments. Having dinner together in the gardens of Isola del Garda was also incredibly special.
Why Is Isola Del Garda One of the Best Places to Get Married in Europe?
Leslie & Oliver: sola del Garda is truly unique. Getting married on a private island surrounded by Lake Garda, with historic gardens and incredible views everywhere you look, is an experience that is difficult to compare with anywhere else in Europe.
How much was your overall budget/spend for your wedding And When Planning Your Budget, What Were Your Priorities?
Leslie & Oliver: We preferred to keep the exact budget private, but we focused our spending on the venue, the guest experience and the suppliers who were most important to us. Our biggest priorities were the location, creating a great experience for our guests, food and capturing the day through photography and video.
Do you need any permits or permission from landowners for this location?
Carlo, the photographer: Yes. Isola del Garda is privately owned, so weddings and events need to be arranged directly with the owners or through the venue’s team. They can also help organise important aspects such as boat transfers and catering.
