This intimate wedding was set in the beautiful Norwegian Embassy in Rome, offering a peaceful oasis in the midst of the bustling city. The couple exchanged vows surrounded by lush greenery and classic architecture, blending Norwegian elegance with Roman charm.
After the ceremony, they wandered through the embassy’s serene gardens, capturing quiet, heartfelt moments that showed the depth of their bond. Their day was a perfect mix of elegance, intimacy, and romance, creating memories that celebrated both their love and the timeless beauty of Rome.
Why Did the Couple Choose Rome for Their Elopement?
From Sarah, the bride: Rome was the first city abroad that we visited as a couple. Throwing our coins into the Trevi fountain, there would be nowhere more perfect destination to get married but in Rome.. As the legends say, if you throw a coin into the Trevi, you will return. We returned to tie our knots.
What Makes Rome Special for Elopements?
From Sarah: It’s Rome! No need to say more, It’s got it all!
Can You Get Legally Married in Italy?
Sarah: we had a civil ceremony at the Norwegian Embassy.
What Sustainability Considerations Were Made (if any) For This Elopement in Rome?
Sarah: The wedding dress and veil were second-hand!
Also, we only made floral arrangements according to actual use. This meaning, we limited ourselves to only make floral arrangements for the groom, and groomsmen/best man and the man of honour + wedding bouqet. These flower arrangements were made and done by the mother of the groom, while the bride made her wedding-bouqet. The flowers were hand-picked and bought by the couple at a local flowershop in Trastevere.
Did the Couple Incorporate Any Cultural Aspects of Italy into Their Elopement?
Sarah: Absolutely, we kept everything as local as possible, except the actual ceremony.
What Was the Couple’s Experience with Getting Married in Rome During the month of May?
Sarah: It was absolutely perfect! Not too warm, not too cold, and best of all not too touristy.
What Are the Best Tips for Planning an Elopement in Rome?
Sarah: Ours became spontanious as we ultimately had decided to have our wedding in Norway due to no openings for civil ceremonies at the Norwegian Royal Embassy in Rome. Suddenly, an opening came in February for a ceremony at the Norwegian Embassy i Rome, in May. We then booked our tickets, the hotel, our photographers, invited our closest family and made dinner reservations accordingly. A full-on destinationwedding requires you to plan at least 1 year in advance.
This to ensure you attract all the vendors and the venue you like, not to mention everything in between, according to the wedding planners (which is a must for that kind of arrangement). Our wedding took a spontanious twist to begin with, so we let the destination, Rome, decide what to make off it, there and then. We are confident to say, we would not have had it any other way!
Perfect, just like Rome.
How Did the Couple Personalize Their Elopement?
Sarah: We had all our wedding pictures taken in Rome.
Also, we decide that we would do this as Italian as possible, which defines us a couple. Being present where we are.
What Challenges Did the Couple Face While Planning Their Elopement in Rome, and How Did They Overcome Them?
Sarah: Nothing at all! We knew this became spontanious, and had to prioritize what were absolute neseccities, so we did.
For us, those were:
– flight tickets
– hotel
– photographers
– family invitations
– dinner reservations
– stylist/make-up artist
– wedding bouquet
What Advice Would you Give to Others Planning an Elopement in Rome?
From Sylvia, the photographer: First of all, you need to choose a location that represents the city. Some great options are the Colosseum, Trastevere or Villa Borghese. They add that special Roman touch to the photos. The best time to go is early in the morning to avoid the crowds and get some great light. Any season is perfect.
If you’re looking to capture the best photos of Rome, I’d recommend heading out in the morning at dawn. The streets are less crowded then, and the light is just gorgeous. The weather in Rome is pretty mild year-round, so any time is a great time to visit. If you’re looking for the best light, though, May or late September to October are the best times.
What Were the Most Memorable Moments from This Elopement?
Sarah: Our wedding dance! After a long day with tons of emotions throughout, we decided to have our last drink, just to of us to conclude this milestone. There was an outdoor bar close to our hotel, with music playing. We asked of they could play “Ti Amo” as we had not had our wedding dance yet. Romantics as Italians are, they made sure of it.
There we were, all by our selves, with a drizzle of rain, having our Wedding dance outdoors for the world to see, in Rome.
Why Is Rome One of the Best Places to Get Married in Europe?
