The perfect elopement in one of Norway’s pearls, Loen. The day started in the stunning Hotel Alexandra. Followed by a drive to the stunnig Hjelle where Debby & Carson did a short walk up to the point where they said their vows. After that they hopped on a rowing boat, popped a bottle of champagne and had some time to take in the full beauty of Norway’s stunning nature.
Why Did the Couple Choose Norway for Their Elopement?
From Debby & Carson: We chose Norway because we wanted to travel somewhere we haven’t been before (ie Scandinavia) and were awestruck by the mountain views. Because we were also traveling on this side of the country, it wasn’t terribly far from where we already were (ie Lofoten was too far north for the amount of time we had).
We didn’t want to stress about planning a traditional wedding. The spectacle of our wedding was that it was just us, for us. We craved the intimacy of a private ceremony where we could be our authentic selves and not focus on external factors like guest seating or what our vows might sound like to other people. Weddings can get so out of hand these days with cost, what other people think, or pressure from family. We wanted to remember the day simply as a celebration of our love with no complicated plans.
What Makes Loen, Norway Special for Elopements?
From Debby & Carson: It doesn’t feel touristy, it wasn’t as busy as some places can be, it felt secluded and intimate. It also had a level of novelty to it because it didn’t take place in a big urban centre or overcrowded areas.

What Sustainability Considerations Were Made (if any) For This Elopement in Norway?
From Debby & Carson: Most things we purchased for the day were things we planned to use again (ie artificial flowers, comfortable shoes we’d where again, make up I could use again, a suit that the groom could totally re wear). We also rented an electric vehicle.
Did the Couple Incorporate Any Cultural Aspects of Norway into Their Elopement?
From Debby & Carson: My flower crown/bouquet had some native Norwegian flowers in it.
What Was the Couple’s Experience with Getting Married in Norway During August?
From Debby & Carson: We’d recommend this time of year because it’s not too hot.
From Lydia, the photographer: May, Early June, August, September is the best time of year to plan a trip to this region.

What Are the Best Tips for Planning an Elopement in Norway?
From Debby & Carson: Book everything early. Be prepared for any type of weather. Get recommendations from your photographer who knows the area well. Have good walking shoes. Go up the sky lift first thing since no one else will be there. Even if it is overcast, still go because you go above the cloud line. There is also a cam up there from Hotel Alexandra. On this note, treat yourself and stay at Hotel Alexandra!
From Lydia, the photographer: Do you research and book a photographer who has knowledge of the area.
How Did the Couple Personalize Their Elopement?
Debby & Carson: Truly just planning what we wanted from where we shot to what we did. Our photographer provided us with lots of ideas, but we also had some of our own for pictures and video.
What Challenges Did the Couple Face While Planning Their Elopement in Norway, and How Did They Overcome Them?
Debby & Carson: I did my own hair and make up but didn’t have the correct converter for my appliances. The morning of the ceremony we had to scramble to go shopping to get what I needed. Make sure you have a converter and not just an adapter! We also encountered the smallest amount of rain. We were so lucky it was at one of our last shooting locations and just embraced it.
What Advice Would the Couple Give to Others Planning an Elopement in Norway?
Debby & Carson: your photographer is your best resource. Use a more reliable weather predicting app like SpotWx to help you plan around weather and point specific locations.

What Were the Most Memorable Moments from This Elopement?
Debby & Carson: Listening to each other’s vows at a gorgeous view point. Borrowing a boat from a local farmer and being on Lake Loen all by ourselves. It was so beautiful and magical. Also being the only one at the top of the Skylift during sunrise.
