Christina and Marissa first met through work and quickly became best of friends. After many years of exploring, they realized the best part of their adventures was spending it with one another. Marissa proposed in key west florida while watching the sunset at a state park (which is one of their favorite things to do). They chose Iceland for their elopement because Iceland embodies the sense of adventure that is reflected in their relationship.

Why Did the Couple Choose Iceland for Their Elopement?

Marissa & Christina: Christina and I love to travel and adventure. Iceland has been a dream destination for us and we figured why not make the place for our perfect wedding.

We chose to elope because we wanted the day to be intimate for just the two of us. We also wanted to combine our wedding and honeymoon so Iceland was perfect!

What Was the Couple’s Experience with Getting Married in Iceland During November?

Marissa & Christina: Getting married in Iceland in November, the weather is very unpredictable. This was true for us on our day as well. We originally planned for our ceremony to be the day before hand but due to rain and weather, we made a last minute change and pushed our ceremony to the next day. Despite the last minute change, the weather on our special day could been much more harsh than it was, so we lucked out.

Anna Isabella, the photographer: the best time of year is March to November for planning anything here.

What Are the Best Tips for Planning an Elopement in Iceland?

Marissa & Christina: Collaborate with local professionals. (i.e. photographer, florist).

Anna Isabella, the photographer:
– I would recommend others to make the most out of this area by combining different types of sceneries – e.g. glaciers, icebergs, beaches and waterfalls to create a lot of variety for the couple.
– The area is very sparsely populated and it’s hard to get a hair/makeup artist to travel that far, so there’s a high chance that the bride will need to do her own hair/makeup.
– This area is great for hiking elopements, so definitely offer that to your couple

How Did the Couple Personalize Their Elopement?

Marissa & Christina: We planned the day based on our interests from start to finish. We chose to exchange our vows in a private location and exchanged our personally written vows. We wore comfortable hiking shoes with ice picks (when needed), and used furry shawls, stocking caps and gloves to stay warm.

What Challenges Did the Couple Face While Planning Their Elopement in Iceland, and How Did They Overcome Them?

Marissa & Christina: Packing lightly for a wedding ceremony was tricky but we narrowed down what was most important to us. Planning logistics in conjunction with unpredictable weather could have been tricky but our photographer really helped navigate these obstacles.

What Advice Would the Couple Give to Others Planning an Elopement in Iceland?

Marissa & Christina: Make the day what you want. Marriage is a special milestone in life so we felt the day should symbolize each of our interest’s as well as what we love together. Since we started dating, we have loved spending time outdoors, trying new things, going to new places. This trip was perfect for us since we achieved all of these things through this destination.

What Were the Most Memorable Moments from This Elopement?

Marissa & Christina: The most memorable moments from our day were when we exchanged our vows to one another at sunrise with the magical Vestrahorn in the background. We also did our first dance shortly after our vows and it was magical.

Why Is Southeast Iceland One of the Best Places to Get Married in Europe?

Marissa & Christina: Iceland is a remarkable destination in Europe, known for its breathtaking landscapes and welcoming atmosphere. As an inclusive country that embraces the LGBTQ+ community, it offered a sense of comfort and belonging that was especially meaningful to us. The people are warm and hospitable, the cuisine is both unique and flavorful, and the scenery is nothing short of magical. With a wide variety of activities and sights to explore, Iceland truly offers something for everyone.

Anna Isabella, the photographer: This area of Iceland is my favourite. It’s less crowded and has some of the most spectacular views in the country – glaciers, black sand beaches, canyons and waterfalls.
