What started as a one-day elopement plan turned into an unforgettable two-half-day celebration, thanks to a little flexibility from the whole team.
Originally, Xiao and Eric envisioned an intimate ceremony in San Marco at dawn, followed by a sunset boat tour. But when heavy rain threatened the afternoon, they managed to shift their plans beautifully: Xiao had an additional preparation session, and the boat tour was seamlessly rescheduled for the day before, while keeping the dawn ceremony in San Marco Square, along with strolling through the alleys of Venice and the gondola tour, for the following morning.

The result was stunning: beautiful dreamy light during the sunset boat tour the day before, and a moody, intimate atmosphere for the ceremony, with fewer crowds due to the impending bad weather, the following day. Plus.. two different hair styles for the bride!
After the ceremony, there was just enough time to explore Venice’s charming alleys and enjoy a gondola ride before the rain arrived.

What Makes Venice Special for Elopements?

Benni & Carol, the photographers: In our opinion, Venice is one of the most unique cities in the world. It can be very crowded, but as soon as you turn away from the main tourist areas or if you explore the city early in the morning or late at night, it can also be extremely peaceful, still and misterious. The pastel colours of the building, the water of the canals and the soft light, all contribute to give the city a dreamy atmosphere that is perfect for romantic couple pictures.

What Are the Best Tips for Planning an Elopement in Venice?

Xiao & Eric: Research and trust. Our wedding planner did a phenomenal job and earned our trust the first time we met via zoom meeting. To be honest we felt skeptical in the very beginning, but Benni and Carol did an awesome job, keep us updated and find all the vendors to provide what we wanted and needed.

Benni & Carol: Be prepared for an early start: Venice is one of the most crowded cities in Italy. If you want to take pictures around the city center, it’s best to get up as early as possible in the morning, right as the sun rises.
Embrace the weather. The atmosphere in Venice can change dramatically depending on the weather conditions. On a clear day, you’ll see pastel colors and soft light, especially towards sunset. Conversely, the mood can be quite dramatic if the skies are overcast.
Make the most of high water in St. Mark’s Square by playing with the reflections (even if your feet get a little wet!).
Don’t hesitate to venture beyond the popular areas and let yourself get lost in the labyrinth of alleys and narrow streets. Typically, every new corner has a surprise waiting for you!
