From Sydney to Menorca, Bel and Alex met in Spain in 2019 and got engaged in Menorca in 2022. They planned an elopement on this beautiful island that was 100% them.
At sunrise, they began the day with a quiet swim in the sea, followed by a walk through the old streets of Mahón, guided by their photographer Sus who was born and raised here.
Their day ended with vows and portraits at Santa Ponsa, a timeless venue where the Mediterranean light shaped every frame.

Why Did the Couple Choose Menorca for Their Elopement?

Bel & Alex: We met in Spain in 2019 and got engaged in Menorca in 2022. Spain has always felt so special to us. We wanted the day to be intimate and to be about us, and our love. We didn’t want to be thinking about others on our special day.

Sus, the photographer: Menorca isn’t just a destination for me; it’s my home. Being born and raised on this island, I’ve spent my life exploring its edge, I love the dramatic contrast between the north’s red, lunar landscapes and the south’s turquoise waters and white sand. But beyond the scenery, it’s the light and the rhythm that I find most inspiring. There is a specific ‘slow’ energy here that dictates how you feel and how you move.

When is the best time of day/year to plan a destination wedding/elopement in this location?

Sus, the photographer: While the Mediterranean is famous for its summers, as someone who grew up here, I always tell my couples that the true magic happens in May and September. In May, the island is in full bloom, the fields are incredibly green, and there is a sense of freshness and anticipation in the air. The daylight is long, and you can enjoy the most popular spots with a level of intimacy that is impossible to find in high summer. September is equally special, but for a different reason: the sea. After three months of sun, the water is at its warmest—perfect for a post-wedding ‘morning swim’ session. The light also begins to shift into a softer, more golden hue, and the island regains its peaceful rhythm as the August crowds fade away.

Why Is Menorca One of the Best Places to Get Married in Europe?

Bel & Alex: The island of Menorca has the most beautiful warm feel to it. The culture, the architecture and the nature makes it one of the most special places in the world. Our venue, Santa Ponsa, is an incredibly special hotel with beautiful grounds. We fell in love with it immediately. It was quiet, serene and plenty of space.

Do you need any permits or permission from landowners for this location?

Sus, the photographer: For private venues and boutique hotels, the general rule in Menorca is that you must be a guest staying at the property to use their grounds for photos or an intimate ceremony. Most of these venues are beautifully preserved ‘Fincas’ or ‘Llocs’ that offer incredible privacy and a high-end feel for an elopement. Regarding our iconic cliffs, coves, and rocky shores, the beauty of Menorca is that the coastline is public and natural. As long as the elopement remains truly intimate—meaning no chairs, altars, or physical structures are set up—there are generally no restrictions for taking photos or exchanging vows. It is all about ‘leaving no trace’ and respecting the environment.
