Sigrid and Sander, a couple from Estonia, first crossed paths in 2015 at a friend’s birthday celebration. After finishing their studies, life’s journey took them all the way to Australia. On Christmas morning in 2021, they set out before dawn for a sunrise hike up the highest mountain in Western Australia. They had spent the night in their car to be ready for the early start. It was there, along the trail, that Sander asked the big question and Sigrid happily said yes!
They never made it to the summit that day since the mountain was wrapped in thick fog, leaving no view to enjoy. A few years later, however, they exchanged vows in Italy’s breathtaking Dolomites. Fittingly, their elopement began just like their engagement story: with a pre-dawn hike in the dark, chasing the first light of day, once again surrounded by mist.
Why Did the Couple Choose The Dolomites for Their Elopement?
Sigrid & Sander: We are big fans of Italy and the Italian Alps. We chose to elope because a large wedding would have been too big for us. And it’s something that was different but spoke to us.

What Are the Best Tips for Planning an Elopement in The Dolomites?
Sigrid & Sander: Hike to the mountains when it’s dark. Prepare for any kind of weather. Choose an elopement guide/photographer who has planned & checked everything for you in advance. Do things early so you can get more private time.
Eva, the photographer: Elope off season, within a week and start early in the morning. Avoid July and August due to crowds and heatwaves and afternoon thunder storms. Choose a photographer who knows the area and the trails even when hiking in dark 🙂 Make a full day out of it! There is so much to explore besides the most known spots of the Dolomites!
How Did the Couple Personalize Their Elopement?
Sigrid & Sander: We brought our kiddo with us. We did a ceremony with our vows, we had personal notes from our family. As we got engaged in the mountains, the elopement in mountains was already a personal touch as well.
