Venice, it has to be one of the most romantic locations in Europe. The epic backdrops. the gondolas, the canals, it’s all so beautiful. What a great place to renew your wedding vows! Katrina and Paul traveled from the UK to this stunning city and exchanged their vows all over again to celebrate their love.

How did you choose the locations?

Ellie, the photographer: The couple chose to go to Venice on their 10 year wedding anniversary. So they chose Venice. My boyfriend and I location scouted the evening before. We have been to Venice before, in our campervan, and we’re used to trying to find places that are quieter! So we knew of a perfect spot that was over on the other side of the water to St Mark’s Square, near the Basilica Santa Maria Della Salute.

We found somewhere quiet for the couple to exchange their vows. Then we knew of a gondola that would take you across the water again, for just €2!!! (A good little tip for those who don’t want to pay €90 for a gondola ride). The other places we had found for photos, were all a small walk between each other, and meant that they could see the sights but have photos without anyone about! The best of both worlds basically.

Do you require any special permits or permission from landowners to take photos here?

Ellie: No because we just stayed out on the streets. This would be different inside the buildings like the Basilica.

How easy is the location to access? Is it suitable for all ages and abilities?

Ellie: You fly into Marco Polo airport, from there you can either get a bus or a water taxi to the main part of Venice. The bus is soo expensive so I would opt for the water taxi for a more fun experience!

I’m not sure it would be ideal for al abilities – there are a lot of steps and bridges and obviously no cars!

Why should couples consider having a photoshoot in this location/area?

Ellie: Venice is known for being super romantic, it’s a beautiful place and even in the super busy times of the year, you can always escape down the canals and be on your own. It has so much history and it’s like no other place that I know of!

What are your top tips for planning a shoot in this area?

Ellie: Definitely scout out your photo locations before hand, you can’t just wing it! I have visited in March and May and both times have had to fight with the rain! Be prepared for a lot of people and always try and find quiet locations.

Is there a best time of year to visit this location?

Ellie: This sounds a little gross, but I’ve heard that it can smell in the height of summer! May was a lovely time, once the rain had passed it was really hot. My parents visited in October and loved it then!

Any other advice or tips you would like to share based on your experience?

Ellie: Don’t just visit Venice, it’s surrounding islands aren’t to be missed – Murano and Burano being my favourites!
