Marina was on vacation in Venice with her brother, while Andrew, her boyfriend, with the agreement of the whole family, decided to travel to Venice from The Netherlands to surprise her with a marriage proposal on the island of San Giorgio at sunrise. How romantic is that?

Who chose the location? You or the couple?

Carlo, the photographer: The client chose the location after we suggested our best spots for proposals in Venice. San Giorgio Island is a public-access island, so no permits are required. To get there, you need to take vaporetto line 2 from St. Mark’s Square. It is generally quiet throughout the year, except in February during Carnival.

How did you approach capturing photos of the proposal and still keeping it a surprise?

Carlo, the photographer: As usual, we pretended to be tourists and hid Marina’s family members around a corner so they could watch the proposal without being seen.

Why did you choose this location to propose?

Andrew: I chose this location because it offers a beautiful view over the entire St. Mark’s Basin and the Doge’s Palace.

What were the biggest challenges you faced planning a proposal abroad?

Andrew: Almost none, because CB Photographer Venice organized everything for me.

What advice would you give to others planning a proposal abroad?

Andrew: Choose the right photographer who knows the area well.

Did you already have a ring? Was it a surprise or did you buy it together?

Andrew: I already had the ring, it’s an heirloom and belonged to my grandmother.
