Pia & Steffi: We chose Sankt Peter-Ording because we especially love nature, the vast beach, and the wind. Since we got married in winter, the stormy dune landscape had a unique beauty for us. At that time of year, there are fewer tourists around, which we found very charming. These were also reasons why we wanted Chris as our photographer—he has a special eye for both the landscape and the couples, especially when the weather isn’t just sunny.
For us, it was always clear that our wedding should be about spending time together. Celebrating with loved ones is, of course, a wonderful memory as well, but we knew that on this special day, we wanted to experience and celebrate our bond together. With the focus solely on us and plenty of time just for each other.
We spent a lot of time in nature and later in our wonderful hotel. For us, it was the perfect mix of being out and about while also having a peaceful place just for ourselves—perfect for doing things our own way.
What Makes Sankt Peter-Ording Special for Elopements?
Chris, the photographer: St. Peter-Ording has one of the most stunning beaches in Germany, known for its iconic stilt houses and endless sandy shores. What I love most about this place is the ever-changing drama of the North Sea – especially in autumn and winter, when the sky often puts on a breathtaking show with dramatic clouds and stunning sunsets. It’s the perfect place to retreat, embrace the elements and to get cosy inside.

Pia & Steffi: We had a civil wedding ceremony at the Museum of the Eiderstedt Landscape.

Pia & Steffi: The wedding ceremony took place at the Museum of the Eiderstedt Landscape, but for us, the focus was more on nature and the beautiful surroundings.
What Was the Couple’s Experience with Getting Married in Sankt Peter-Ording During the month of November?
Pia & Steffi: For us, it was the best decision to get married there in winter. However, that also means you might find yourself standing in the rain at 5 degrees.

Autumn & Winter (September–February) – The ultimate season for couples who love wild, dramatic landscapes. Stormy skies, golden dune grass, and empty beaches create an intimate, almost cinematic atmosphere. Sunsets tend to be more intense, and there’s a real sense of retreat and coziness.
Spring (March–May) – A great balance between solitude and milder temperatures. The landscape awakens, with fresh greens in the salt marshes and fewer tourists than in summer. The weather is still unpredictable but can offer crisp, clear days.
Summer (June–August) – If you prefer long days and a slightly warmer beach experience, summer can work – but expect more visitors, especially during peak holiday weeks. Opt for early morning or late evening ceremonies for privacy.
What Are the Best Tips for Planning an Elopement in Sankt Peter-Ording?
Pia & Steffi: The selection of vendors on site is somewhat limited due to the size of the town, so you might not find everything in every style locally. However, the florist and the bakery were very dedicated and did their best to fulfill all our wishes, even though it wasn’t part of their everyday work. We truly appreciate that and were very happy with the result.
Of course, it ultimately comes down to personal taste and what you envision for your wedding.
Chris, the photographer: embrace the weather – The North Sea is wild and unpredictable, especially in autumn and winter. Instead of fearing wind, dramatic clouds and rain, lean into them – they create an incredible atmosphere and breathtaking photos. Bring layers and windproof clothing to stay comfortable. Boots are a must-have if you don’t want to go bare-foot.
Consider the right spot on tides and season – especially if you want to use one the iconic beach parking spots. While St. Peter-Ording is spacious, some areas can still get busy in high season. If you want to get married in private on the beach, opt for more secluded spots or plan your ceremony early in the morning or during sunset for more privacy.
Choose the right time of year – Summer brings more tourists, while autumn and winter offer solitude, moody skies, and a more intimate experience. If you love the idea of having the beach almost to yourself, the off-season is perfect.
Book a cozy stay and stay for a couple of days – Whether it’s a thatched-roof house or a stylish hotel with a fireplace facing the beaching, having a warm and inviting place to return to is essential for creating that hygge feeling after a day out in the elements. Take some extra days off to embrace your new bond in a mini honeymoon.
How Did the Couple Personalize Their Elopement?
Pia & Steffi: We had a classic elopement wedding and had the entire day to ourselves. After getting ready together in the morning—which was a really beautiful experience—we headed to the registry office, or rather, the museum, with Chris.
Afterward, we had a completely free afternoon, allowing us to take our time and capture stunning photos in a relaxed way. We enjoyed the day at various beautiful locations and later returned to the hotel from the beach, where the sun was shining brightly.
At the hotel, we had our wedding cake—far too much for just the two of us, which the hotel staff was quite happy about. Later, we simply celebrated in our own way. In the evening, we ordered food to our room and just enjoyed the time together.
What Challenges Did the Couple Face While Planning Their Elopement in Sankt Peter-Ording, and How Did They Overcome Them?
Pia & Steffi: The biggest challenge was definitely coordinating everything with the florist and bakery exclusively via phone and email. Without knowing their work 100%, we had to trust that they understood our vision. Luckily, everything turned out well, but of course, there was a certain risk in not knowing exactly what we would get.
For the flowers, for example, we initially reached out to florists who created exactly what we had envisioned, but unfortunately, there was no way to have them delivered.
Other than that, our biggest “problem” was that our car was packed to the brim as if we were moving house—because we always tend to take too much with us. But, of course, that was a self-inflicted issue! 🙂
What Advice Would the Couple Give to Others Planning an Elopement in Sankt Peter-Ording?
Pia & Steffi: The best approach is, of course, to visit the location beforehand to get a feel for it and to plan out distances in advance, depending on where you are.
In general, it’s helpful to talk to local vendors early on to allow enough preparation time. We visited the location multiple times, but having a local photographer who knew great spots was especially valuable for our photos.
Another useful tip: if you’re staying at a hotel, ask if they have recommendations for local vendors—they often have great connections!
What Were the Most Memorable Moments from This Elopement?
Pia & Steffi: It’s not easy to pinpoint a single highlight because, for us, the entire day felt perfectly in sync. What made it so special was the feeling of truly being together the whole time—not just physically, but emotionally as well. We were able to do everything at our own pace and had the wonderful support of Chris, to whom we entrusted everything. That gave us an incredible amount of freedom to just focus on each other.
But if we had to choose one moment, it would probably be our evening together—just the two of us, completely filled with happiness.

Pia & Steffi: The coastal landscape and the vast dunes are truly stunning places. There is a large national park with untouched nature, which exudes a special sense of tranquility. Anyone who loves Nordic nature with its unique and sometimes unpredictable weather will definitely feel at home here.
