When Rory & Sam decided to get married, they knew they wanted to do something that was important to them. Instead of a big wedding, they used the money to travel through Europe together for five weeks and ended in the Austrian Alps for their destination elopement. They travelled all the way from Australia to get married in snowy Alps

How was the location chosen?

From the photographer: When we first had a call with Rory and Sam, they mentioned that they want to get married in snowy alps, I knew exactly the place! It is a very beautiful hotel, isolated on the top of the mountain. It’s a unique setting in BOHO style.

what are your top tips for planning an elopement in this area?

From the photographer: It is quite a remote place, to get there you can only by car. So when planning any extra vendors, it should be considered. I would say staying in the hotel is a must.

Bonus – when staying at the hotel is that you don’t need any special permits or permission from landowners to get married or have your photoshoot here.

What are your top tips for planning a winter elopement?

Since snow is rare these years, it is quite important to choose a place higher in the altitude, to ensure higher chances of snow. Consider some options if there will be no snow. Plan the photo shoot in a way that everyone has a chance to warm up every 30 min from the cold.

Remember to accept the fact that the weather is unpredictable, but no matter what it will be beautiful anyway. Because during this elopement, the day before there was no snow at all, but everything can change over the night.

If possible – be flexible with timing, the light and the condition can change every 15 min in the mountains.

From the bride:
“When we decided to get married, we knew we wanted to do something that was important to us. Instead of a big wedding, we used the money to travel through Europe together for five weeks and ended in the Austrian Alps for our special day. We spent five wonderful days in the Jufenalm resort. We met our photographer, Lillia Chuba, and her family at the resort the day before, and over talking through lunch it felt like we had family with us! On the morning of January 11th, we had a relaxed breakfast and got ready together. With the weather perfect, and sun shining, we exchanged our vows and made a special commitment to each other. We ended the day with a private dinner to celebrate being newlyweds.

When we got home, we shared the news with friends and family and were able to relive the beauty and excitement through a wedding celebration. We’re so happy to be able to have celebrated our marriage in a way that we will truly never forget.”
