Stephen contacted photographer Rita so that he could surprise Taylor with a heartfelt proposal and photo shoot.

What makes Cabo da Roca special for a Proposal?

Fun fact – Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of Portugal!

Cabo da Roca is as magical as it is windy, with its beautiful cliffs and stunning surroundings. The natural beauty of Cabo da Roca, especially during sunset, provides a romantic and intimate setting. The warm hues of the setting sun reflecting off the cliffs and the sea create a magical ambiance that can enhance the moment of a proposal.

Cabo da Roca is relatively less crowded compared to other tourist destinations. This seclusion allows couples to enjoy a more private and personal moment during the proposal, away from the hustle and bustle of more popular spots. The stunning cliffs and ocean views provide a naturally photogenic backdrop for the proposal. The moment can be captured in photographs that will serve as beautiful and lasting memories of this special occasion.

How smoothly did things go on the day?

Stephen was nervous but we kept in touch via WhatsApp: he showed me how they were dressed so I could spot them easily and we gave each other a wink just as he passed me by as I was pretending to be hanging out shooting the landscape.

What advice would you give to someone considering a proposal photographer?

Having a proposal photographed is a wonderful way to capture and cherish the special moment for years to come.

  • If you want the proposal to be a surprise, discuss with the photographer how they can blend in and remain discreet.
  • Work with your photographer to plan the timing of the proposal, especially if you’re aiming for specific lighting conditions, such as during sunset as I recommend and it’s also my favorite. Being mindful of timing ensures that you have optimal conditions for stunning photographs.
  • Relax and be yourselves during the proposal: take your time, say everything you want, and pretend the photographer is not there.
  • Trust your photographer to capture the genuine expressions and reactions that make the moment special.

After the proposal, take a bit of time and plan to capture more intimate moments and portraits in and around the proposal location. This allows you to have a broader collection of photos to commemorate the occasion.

After the experience here is what Stephen had to say: “Huge shout-out to Rita for these AMAZING pictures but also for helping coordinate and being adaptable to last-minute changes. If you are in Portugal and need a photographer she should be your first call! (And she used to play ultimate, what are the odds??)”
