If you are thinking about getting married at a period property with castle vibes in the enchanting English countryside, then this micro-wedding at Hotel Endsleigh will be just your cup of tea.

Hotel Endsleigh is a peaceful historical property, set in 100 acres of fairy tale gardens, woodlands, follies and grottos .

What makes this location special? Why should other couples consider it for their elopement?

It’s special because it’s utterly beautiful. It’s full of quirky charm while managing to stay relaxed. It’s genuinely like stepping out of time. There’s a magic hush to the place that will not be hurried.

The staff there are also great – present but not visible or obtrusive.

What are your top tips for planning an elopement/micro-wedding at this location/in this area?

The Hotel Endsleigh is on the edge of Dartmoor so a wonderful place for exploring – and hiking, obviously!

The hotel itself has a shell grotto which is bonkers amazing and serves as the general ceremony area.

What made this wedding memorable for you?

Clare and Alan’s elopement was fantastically understated. I’ll always ALWAYS be a sucker for a wedding with a dog in it and so today didn’t disappoint.

Alan is a tree surgeon and Clare had secretly arranged with the head gardener for Alan to plant a symbolic tree in the grounds. Clare is herself a wedding photographer and so totally knew how to put the wedding together.

Any other advice or tips you would like to share based on your experience?

Keep it simple and let the grounds/building work for you. For Clare and Alan that meant keeping it small with a few canapés after the ceremony and later dinner on a long table in a quiet shaded part of the venue.

The joy of Hotel Endsleigh is that it doesn’t feel like a venue and it almost doesn’t feel like a hotel. It feels like you’ve been invited, Agatha Christie style, to a someone’s country pile (though hopefully with a lower body count)
