Jessica & Anthony travelled all the way from Oregon, USA to elope in Salzburg, Austria. We planned a beautiful day in the city: First Look on the Steinterrasse with the castle in the background, they got officially married at Schloss Mirabell and then we planned the free ceremony on the top of Untersberg. They expected sun and blue sky at the end of June, but we got clouds and rain. We still decided to take the cable car up the mountain where we were almost the only people. This allowed us to play music as loud as we wanted and have an uninterrupted ceremony followed by a champagne picnic high up in the clouds. A truly mystical day they will never forget – unique, personal and memorable!

Why Is Salzburg The Perfect Elopement Location?

It gives the couple the option of a mountain elopement in the city of Salzburg, which is easy to combine with a legal ceremony at Schloss Mirabell. Why should other couples consider it for their elopement? Spectacular scenery, free of charge, short distance from Salzburg city.

Tips For Eloping In Salzburg

Legal Ceremonies In Salzburg

For the legal ceremony at Schloss Mirabell, couples have to register and need to hand in all translated documents three months before the wedding date. For the symbolic ceremony on the Untersberg mountain top, no permits are needed.

When To Visit

I recommend couples to choose the summer months between June and September for a mountain elopement. There are no limitations to get married at Schloss Mirabell, which can be easily combined with a second location in nature the rest of the year.

One Final piece of advice

If you decide to elope, make it count! Don’t leave out minor details just because there are no guests or because you want to save money. It is your wedding day – spectacular photos of a high standard will bring back these memories in a heartbeat!

Sandra – Wedding Planner

And finally, we asked planner Sandra “What made this elopement memorable for you?”

The weather. Like every couple on their wedding day, my clients hoped for sunshine and a blue sky, but what they then got was thick fog. We couldn’t see further than 5 metres at some points during the day. At 5 pm we realized how lucky we were though, because lightning and thunder rolled in. It would have been impossible to go up the mountain and officiate a wedding in these bad conditions.

The couple were both very grateful and down-to-earth people. Working with them was a smooth experience during the entire process, and on their wedding day, I had the honour to witness their love for each other. They made so much effort despite the fact it was just the two of them: from the bride’s getting-ready, to the first look, to their wedding vows – one could sense true love in the air!
